The first christmas present from me this year :)

Even if I already draw the winner of my little giveaway... between baking and wrapping presents and having some coffee with friends... I didn't manage to post ;)

Colours and structures - earings (SMS giveaway)

I already showed you earrings I made with my new structures (I just love structures) on polymer clay. Most of the time I use Fimo classic as polymer clay brand. I can't really work with the Fimo soft stuff, it is really just too soft and I can't get my structures so clear impressed. Also Prado is a polymer clay brand I really like to work with. But it is not in the craft stores here in leipzig available (sadly).

After wards I paint the polymer clay pieces with acrylic colours (Reeves). The earring on top also got an additional layer of liquid Fimo.

I nearly forgot the Sew Mama Sew giveaway day (have a look there for more giveaways!)... but as soon as I saw other giveaways appear in my blog roll, I thought some of my new earrings may be perfect for SMS giveaway day! This is the second time I participate, the last time I also had some handmade earrings as my giveaway and I hope I will take part in a lot more. I always discoer so many new blogs and get to know new, great people!

On my worktable and some tiny eyeballs just for you!

There is a lot which I am creating at the moment. But it takes time and I only find this time in between all the other important aspects of the normal life. This time is then dedicated and to create earrings from polymer clay will go over  time period of days and weeks.

Just little steps... molding, pressing, baking, painting, baking again, adding, painting, glossing, drilling....

But there is a need to create, just to make "stuff". I calm down, something inside of me relaxes... settles down? It is hard to describe it in words but more often than not there is too much going on inside my brain. Not bad things, all kind of thoughts, ideas, worries as well as the opposite... just too much. Bursting. Racing. Bubbling. (I always wanted to use this word! ^^) I would never change that in itself! But it drains energy. Reading, talking, watching some movies... that all is great but no help. In the back of my brain everything is still working. But creating stuff, to go from ideas over experimenting, to have all the sensations from the visual idea to the touch of the material, that brings it all in order.

In the end creating is a catalyst while calming at the same time. Ideas need room and time to develop. Even in the own mind.

I love to see how things turn out in the end. How my creating evolve. How many facettes of myself are inside my work.

And I can let it go. As long as it will be with someone who really wants to have it!

So for the long time with just some spare blog entries: Here some view from my workingspace! (if you wonder, I won't show you the rest of the table or the surroundings! No way! I see all the people showing pictures from their space, calling it a mess... and I think by myself: You don't know what a real mess looks like! ^^)

SMS giveaway - sea urchin earrings

I never got to take part in the sew mama sew giveaway day (sms) before. I just always took my chance with all the other participants which gave the possibility to win some of their beautiful stuff. Even now I am a little bit late...  

...better late than never, mh? ^^

So here we go! For the sms I'd like to give one of my sea urchin earrings!

I already showed you the first of my sea urchin earrings (I am still in the process of making new ones and to experiment with colours and materials). And yes, I'll also show you more of the process how to make them but this may still need some time. I just got my date to defend my thesis! Finally! HA! And this will (for sure) occupy a lot of my time in the near future. But I already started to write about the first steps of making the mold... so have a little patience. :)

The earrings are made from a silicon mold (from a real sea urchin from the mediterranean sea, better to say: from Formentera!) with polymer clay (fimo). I drilled little hole inside with my dremel and painted the surface with different kind of acrylic colours (classic ones, aqua acrylic paints, metal effect). I tried to take pictures from the earrings with different light sources and background but it is difficult to catch the real colour. They are in shades of blues, a wee tiny bit green and bronze and copper accents at the top!
