Warmers... or whatever...!

There is one single german word which exactly describes this kind of clothes. It is "Stulpen" (plural): I never though before what the english term would be. Not before I tried to get the correct headline for this blog entry.

Hmpf...

Dictionaries are of no help either...

...I took all the terms and started to search online for them... just to get an idea for what range of things people are using them...

...cuffs... (no! really no!) ...gaiters... (but these are only the ones for the legs?)

...more strange ones... like cover, gauntlets, sheats, shields... Nope! I can't even image how somebody could ever put these connection to "Stulpe/Stulpen" in any kind of dictonary?

Like most times... crafting blogs are helping.

A lot of people are calling this stuff warmers... wrist warmers... pulse warmers... arm warmers... (not that they define them being short ones or long ones... with a gap for the thumb or without... (both would be considered as "Stulpen" in german!)

But with somethings like wrist warmers... or warmers alone... I can work!

And it suits the german term for implicate leg warmers as well as arm warmers... etc etc...

Back to the cause for the blog entry: My newest warmers ^^

Blue cotton jersey with tentacles...! (what else?)

Good night goodies... hairpins...

...fluffy.. in strange orange stripes...

...made of some curtains a friend wanted to throw away...

to be honest, I didn't wanted this fabric at first... but another friend just said "take it" and I was just well-behaved and did like I was told... for the better! Although it is a really ugly fabric, it makes fluffy and nice hairpins! ^^

I made three hairpins which differes in size only... still a lot of the fabric left...

..I use these small black hairpins to fix them... they are able to hold nearly everything... even my long and heavy hair...!

The big one alone... or the smallest on with the violett hairpin i made some time ago... and a black crochet flower Lachafa made for me :)

Bath bomb in action!

I love it! I love it! I love it!

Bath bombs!

Yes, something new. Again ^^ After falling in love with soap making I just stumpled over recipes for bath bombs... and how could I resist?

I made three versions from one basic batch:

• with rose petals and oil and red colour
• with orange petals and vanille and yellow colour
• with cornflower petals and birch tree scent and blue colour

I tried to use the scent only in small amounts so it wouldn't be too overwhelming for a sensible nose ^^

During drying...

...and packed...

Packed "just cream" soap...

...at first wrapped in a kind of sandwich paper which is kind of greaseproof. I like the texture of this kind of paper and what although it gives a good protection the air will go through. Around this layer came two kinds of banderoles: a white one out of structured kozo paper and a coloured one out of decopatch paper.

Just the labels added... the name on the front side and some more informational stuff at the back...

Waiting...

...the newest sewn octopus pillow. Again, how could it be different, a gift for a friend (yes... you are old now! ^^).

Coffee and honey...

...with olive oil or just cream inlays (the little balls ^^)...

Also made from soap leftovers, melted in the oven (with some milk and water added) for... to many hours... in the upper part I added some real dark mocca... and the other one got some melted honey...

It took a while to harden because of all the extra fluids... but not too long.

I love the effect!

Pure olive soap with a carved tentacle...

Nothing more to add I think ^^

There was some soda ash on the top of this olive oil soap and so I used it to get some colour effects afters carving the soap...

I think I didn't mind soda ash... or even more, sometimes it will be useful...

Rainbow...

...with food colours... made out of some leftovers of soap, melted in the oven...

I just wanted to see the effect. Some people like it... for me... mh... a little bit too much bright colours ^^

Poppy seed and co...

...with inlays of pur cream :)

Colour = curcuma

It is an olive cream experiment...

...with olive oil... coconut oil, castor oil, jojoba "oil" and cream (frozen so it wouldn't get to hot with NaOH)...

...and poppy seeds for a scrubbing effect (maybe next time a looooooooooot more of them!)
