Inspirations: Numbers (Leipzig)

More numbers for my growing collection! Especially the 28 is beautiful! :)

A short step from tentacles to cthullu cake!

This cake was made by Nasia. She found my blog while she was searching for some tentacle and / or cthulhu inspired cakes! We talked a little bit about how to create tentacles with different (eatable) materials.

This is her resulting cake (she send me the picture and allowed me to post it in my blog! :) )! Made with fondant in brilliant green! And of course: Red eyes! Maybe I should also make some red eyeballs out of polymer clay for my little monsters?

And have a look at the little nares! ^^

Hopefully not her last tentacle cake! :)

CQJP 2012 - April (finally!)

It took some time to finish my block for april. I made the block as part of the crazy quilt journal project 2012 (click here for more inspirations of the other participants of the CQJP 2012). I finished the blocks for may and june even before this one... ehm...

So here we go... with some written stuff stitched, the flowers are made with walkloden (a kind of heavy felt) and a lot of swirls! :)

Show off!

Just as an example how I presented some of my work at the fair. The paper background I stamped with my handcarved stamp of a swallow and with a background stamp I made with tiny foam dots (I just realize that I probally should show you that stamp ^^). After that I just took a stamping pad and went over the edges and also just over the middle randomly. After that some writing... and a finally stamp image with my tentacle stamp! I carved that some time ago and the image is also my logo now :)

Inspirations: On the streets (Leipzig)

Shoked? Surprised? Wondering? This was another find of streetart made by paper. I really love the paper ones, even if they are the ones which will be gone very soon!

These two individuals I found at the same building with the nice sun clock

I think he is dancing... somehow? ^^

The whole range of flowers!

I made quite a lot of them over the past weeks. Only one in time, but using up my fabric leftovers and over stuff. Some of them I can't show you, I forgot to take pictures before bringing them to the fair.

You can see, just simple layers of circles with some beads and stitching but it creates a great effect!

The black and white threads are originally some kind of woven polyester fabric which I sew on like the other fabrics and just in the end I remove all open threads which are not fixed due to the stitching in the middle! An easy way to get the flowery effect I think!

Otherwise I use really all kind of fabric leftothers...

...from cotton to fake green gras stuff...

I add some contrast with the thread I use for stitching. It needs some contrast and to more highlight the organic structures created with the beads.

An example of the back. I use either the brooch pins or the clip pins which can be used either as brooch or as hairpin!

PS: I sew and glue the pins onto the back! ^^

Crochet bracelet

Another one, this time more simple. As closure I used a frosted green glas bead. I love how it looks but on the down side, this makes the bracelet not wearable for everyone. Still I love the little bead at the end!

Black cotton thread with a dark green satin ribbon. My colours! :)

Inspirations: Time (Leipzig)

Sometimes there are places next to you which are really beautiful. But it takes not only days or weeks but sometimes years not only to go by but to really see them. This happens to me with this beautiful sun clock!

In the lower picture you can see it even with a little bit of sun but the sun was also jut a short visitor therefor the only picture where you can see at which time I made it!

I love the torn look, the red colour of the stones, the washed out numbers...

And easy as that, just using the same picture in black and white or sepia colours makes a great image to be used for collages with a vintage or steampunk theme. Just print it!

Years... really years... I wandered by not noticing!

Monstrous creations!

One of the next two monsters I am sewing. It already took some time and they also will need quite a lot more time before they are true tiny monsters! But I thought to give you an impression how I create them. Because I really don't use any pattern. Even more, I don't know how they will look in the end! I start with making the eyeballs... and sewing / adding everything else.

Of course a monster also needs teeths! Big and pointy ones! I just form them with white polymer clay (Fimo). They are not even, they are not really the same size, but they don't need to be! With a monster all these little imperfections makes it unique and bring it to live. I flatten the top of the teeth a little bit and pin holes into it before baking. I use this part to sew the teeths to the felt.

Another one! It already got eyeballs (BIG EYEBALLS!), eyelids to look grumpy and some ears.

I always love to look at the working tables and material of other creators and crafters but most of the time I don't want to show mine. I mean, you see the pictures and all of them tells you: Oh, it is horrible messy! And all what I can think is: If your table is messy, mine would be... the personification of chaos?

...mh... maybe that could be the truth.

But wihle taking pictures I stumbled over my little pin tin box where I store and transport a lot of needles and other material like monster teeths! And I love it! In the lid I also added a magnet, which is really helpful when you are sewing while travelling.

Here is his face! With eyeballs, eyelids, ears and earfelthairs and of course teeth! He will end not too grumpy but more a little bit more fearful in the big wide world. A tiny frightened monster!

Inspirations: Critters and flowers (Püchau)

After the rain you could see all the tiny drops of water on the flowers. I love this effect! It creates something just even more beautiful than the flower itself. Next to flowers there were of course a lot of insects, all the critters, which I love to find!

We went there as part of a little tour to find spices and healing plants, how to detect them, how to treat the single parts and for what benefit one could use the.

Needless to say, most of it -as interesting as it was!- just went in and out of my head. Even regarding that I studied biology... I just had botany courses during my basic study phase (first two years). That was enough for me!

But I still love the look of plants... also of course to eat them! ^^ I still know all the biochemical processes inside... but names? Ehm... no.

Just a tiny drop of colour...

Can you see him? ^^
